The CANTERRA SEEDS Story
1996
Nine seed growers from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta join together to form a shareholder owned seed company called CANTERRA SEEDS. Starting with a single wheat variety, the vision was for CANTERRA SEEDS to one day become a global player in the seed industry.
1999
The number of CANTERRA SEEDS’ shareholders grows to 135 and sales reach $1.5 million. CANTERRA SEEDS’ portfolio expands to include canola. As well, a research program is launched.
2002
CVC Technologies, an information technology company that develops seed industry software, is formed. The same year CANTERRA SEEDS HOLDINGS LTD. is established to facilitate separate investment into the multiple holdings – seed or information technology. The shareholder network expands to 150.
2005
CANTERRA SEEDS HOLDINGS LTD becomes a venture issuer; stocks traded over the counter at Saskatchewan Securities Commission. Total sales exceed $11 million. CANTERRA SEEDS enters the soybean market. The American subsidiary, Meridian Seeds, formed in 2003 with North Dakota Seed Growers continues to grow.
2008
Since issuing an Offering Memorandum in 2006 allowing retails and private parties to invest in the company, ownership grew to 178+ shareholders. Upon numerous strong years of growth, total sales in 2007 reached $14.5 million. An expanded internal Research and Development program is launched. Product portfolio now includes over 44 varieties.
